Hi, my name is Kevin Murphy, and I am the Democratic Candidate for State Representative in the General Assembly of the 113th District. My candidacy is based on open government, responsible leadership and a sincere desire to do the right thing for the constituents of the 113th District.
In recent years, there has been a groundswell of support for sweeping reform of the way our elected officials conduct the business of the people. I believe we deserve to know exactly what our Representative is doing on our dime. I believe responsible leadership is displayed through a willingness to make difficult decisions, the desire and dedication to make a difference, and the resourcefulness to make positive change a reality. My commitment will not be to special interest groups, lobbyists, nor the political hierarchy. My commitment will be to our district and our families. I believe a political leader is obligated to represent their entire constituency fairly and free of bias.
One of the critical issues in today's society is education; elementary, secondary, and the opportunity for a college education for everyone at a cost we can afford. The rising costs of college tuition, the complicated PHEAA loan application and high interest rates make obtaining a college degree nearly impossible. Middle-income families in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's 113th Legislative District are the families who are experiencing the most difficulty qualifying for many of these programs. Having just paid off my own student loans, I know these difficulties all too well. I feel it is the responsibility of our elected officials to create ways to make it affordable for our society to be well-educated so we can be more competitive in the workplace thus making our State more attractive to Corporate America.
We are all aware of the struggles our Senior Citizens are facing in Northeast Pennsylvania, as are many of us, to pay their heating bills and property taxes while trying to budget for exorbitant health care costs. This is enough to cause anyone anxiety and frustration. If this is the best we can do for them, we are failing them miserably. I give you my solemn promise that I will work diligently and immediately to seek solutions to remedy their problems. We must take care of our Seniors, period.
Accessibility and accountability are key. I welcome any questions you may have. I want to make a difference in our District. I will represent you with honesty and integrity while working hard in Harrisburg to make sound decisions fully realizing they will be decisions that will directly affect all of our lives.
I humbly ask for your vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4th.
My wife, Denise, and I along with our four children, Kasey, Kevin, Michael and P.J., thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Kevin Murphy
